South LA’s work around USC’s campus in the Exposition Park neighborhood to preserve affordable housing through participatory planning and community land trusts, a form of shared equity homeownership placing ownership of community land in the hands of its members. Comprising just a small share of the nation’s housing stock, community land trusts are gaining visibility for creating long-term and permanently affordable housing that addresses racial inequality and housing crises worsened during the Covid-19 pandemic.
